Visible Mending Basics -

Tiny snags in your favorite sweater? Rips in your jeans? Toes showing up through your socks? Mending to the rescue!

In the past few years there has been a resurgence of learning repair and mending techniques to slow down your fashion and help clothing last longer. Current fashion in particular has been encouraging for using patches and visible mending to extend the life of clothing in your life. We'll be learning to use a Katrinkles style darning loom and the basics of sashiko (the Japanese art of tiny stitches) to expand our options for how to repair different fabrics.

Class kit includes a tiny Katrinkles Darning Loom plus lots of materials to try including wool to felt, some fabric, interfacing, sashiko thread, needles, stitching guide, etc. Please bring an item you would like to practice mending or a swatch of knitting or material at least 6 inches square.

Cost of workshop includes class kit.

In addition to this awesome workshop, from 9-5 pm, Katy will have her Yarn Truck available outside of Austin Sewing.  The truck is a mobile yarn store that specializes in hand dyed yarns, fiber accessories, and handmade notions.  She features indie dyers & makers from across the USA and is bringing them right to us!
