Quick Start Serger Workshop with Colette Wilson,
Colette is the owner of It Had To Be Sew LLC, brings a lifelong passion for sewing, quilting, machine embroidery, and garment construction. She has used a serger since 1978 and delights in sharing her knowledge of all things “serger” with others. You bought the serger, she will teach you to “own it”.
This 5-hour class will take the mystery and frustration out of threading and operating a basic serger. We may not need the entire duration of the class but have scheduled extra time to ensure all students get the full benefit of this workshop.
There is a significant learning curve for using an overlock machine, or serger, but no serious sewing room is complete without one. It's a must for sewing knits and giving a professional finish to all your sewing projects. Here's how this class will help you get started fast.
Learn on your own machine - Bring your serger and all its accessories and MANUAL to class and we'll teach you to use your own machine.
Build confidence in your skills - Get plenty of support and practice threading your machine and setting it up for 2, 3 or 4-thread functions.
Develop your knowledge – The serger or overlock machine is not a sewing machine. While there are some similarities, there are many differences. Learn the function of your machine and how each setting affects good stitch quality. It is not all about tension.
Learn tips and tricks – Take advantage of Colette's experience and all that she has learned in the industry and as an owner and user of the serger. Take your sewing skills to the next level and make the serger your new BFF!
Scope of the class: This class covers only the main functions on a basic overlock machine, or serger. Five-thread functions, cover stitch and chain stitch are not introduced in this class.
Class pre-requisite: Even new sewers can learn to use a serger, but you must have some proficiency and familiarity with a sewing machine in order to get full value from the class.
Class Supplies: A detailed supplies/requirement list will be sent to each registered student. Basically you need your serger, thread snips, tweezers, scissors, small flashlight, small magnifying glass (if needed), and pen/pencil and paper.
Please ensure you read it and are familiar with what is being asked. Fabric and thread for the class will be provided.
